In traditional translation studies of literary translation, the -original- author-and-text oriented theory is in the prevalent position. Translators and translated texts are in a passive state. The subjectivity of translators is ignored for many years in the translation study history. In 1970s, a culture turn in translation studies occurred in the western scholars' studies. Such a culture manipulation theory offers a new perspective for translation study, that is, target-culture orientation. This theory made scholars pay attention to the subjectivity of translation. They began to define the translator's identity and position in translation again. In these days, many scholars in translation studies have made further researches of translator's subjectivity, such as its connotation, its performance and limitations.Firstly, this thesis makes an analysis of the connotation of the translator's subjectivity and its limitation by applying some representing theories of translation studies which emphasize the function of translators, such as the Manipulation Theory, Functionalist Approaches and Relevance Theory. Secondly it makes a brief review of the translator's cultural position, that is, it has got a process from being obscured to being stressed. Next the thesis makes a profound research of the embodiments of translator's subjectivity from the perspectives of the process of translation, target-culture awareness and inter-subjectivity. Finally, the thesis makes not only a conclusion of the author's writing purpose but also an outlook of the further research of the translator's subjectivity.
