This thesis aims at doing basic sort and analysis of Xue Yun Ji Yao by Qing Dynasty scholar Liu Shaoban.Xue Yun Ji Yao,which currently has block-printed from Qing Dynasty only rather than checking versions,is a phonological book which contains the division of vowels, the rime table, modern vowels and phonological comparison between Chinese and certain foreign languages. The dissertation has six parts on account of the basic research of Xue Yun Ji Yao.The first part is the introduction. On the basis of the fundamentals collated, the thesis examines the author and his academic background,as well as the book versions, writing purposes and the causes of printing.Targeted research methods were put forward according to the research status.Besides, the research significance would be stated by two aspects, which are the academic history and the ancient books' protection. The second part is an introductory overview of Xue Yun Ji Yao.This part introduces the basic style of Xue Yun Ji Yao,the table of ancient vowels, the relevant regulations, the table of the splitting of consonants and vowels, phonological comparison between Chinese and foreign languages, and modern vowels. The third part is the research of ancient phonological concepts of Liu Shaoban.Liu Shaoban's ancient phonological concepts involved the theory of Tong Zhuan Xie Yin,the theory of Shou Yin Liu Tiao, and the division of ancient vowels.Under the premise of ancient original phonology,Liu agreed with Wu Yu's Tong Zhuan Theory, but against Zhu Xi's random Xie Yin.Besides,he also put forward three standards of Xie Yin.From the practical perspective of the view, ancient vowels can be divided into six parts through the theory of Shou Yin Liu Tiao, which embodies progressiveness to a certain extent, but is still shallow. The forth part is the research of modern phonological concepts of Liu Shaoban. The modern phonological concepts of Liu Shaoban involved harmonious split. The basic principle of harmonious split is phoneme split, which aims at eliminating distractions and making the process of split smoothly. The division of ancient vowels Qie Yun Pu,which was proposed by Liu Shaoban, used traditional 36 initials of Song Dynasty. As for final systems, they were broadly merged into 63.The fifth part is the research of Sino-foreign transliteration concepts of Liu Shaoban. The Sino-foreign transliteration concepts of Liu Shaoban involved transliteration systems of 12 terminais of Manchu,Korean,Jingtangyu,Sanskrit, and Tibetan. On the side of Sino-Manchu transliteration, nasal terminal [–m] and plosive terminal [-p]?[-t]?[-k] were all retained,so this mertial has described transliteration characteristics of middle Chinese.Korean does not distinguish tones, and head vowels gover the phonology forms. There are14 consonants and 11 vowels in Korean. There are 29 consonants in Jingtangyu, which does not have any vowel or tone.Jingtangyu came from Arabic in phonological aspect.Lama phonology is made up of Sanskrit and Tibetan, which have 34 consonants and 16 vowels, and the duration of vowels are different. The sixth part compares mapping ways and phonological system of Xue Yun Ji Yao and Qie Yun Zhi Nan.It can be seen from that Xue Yun Ji Yao is contemporary and less conservative.
