It is an indispensable part to teaching Chinese as a foreign language,no matter from the point of language teaching element,or from four teaching skills,having a wider impact on Chinese Learners.But for a long time,Chinese character teaching states in a unbalanced place,the reason for which is that Chinese teaching field holds word-based teaching method so many years,as a result,Chinese character teaching lies in neglected.The same situation is taken place in Confucius Institute at the University of Kelaniya,the place which the writer of this paper stays.After finishing questionnaire,class discussion and error analysis,the writer finds one special point is that the stroke error,then is component error,besides the most errors in strokes only appear at the elementary level.The appearance of mistakes has subjective and objective reasons.The subjective factors include the learning attitude,learning strategy influence,not pay attention to the character,too shy to teacher,also because of the basic rule Chinese character awareness is not enough;the objective factors include teacher give simple method to learn and high number and structure complex of Chinese characters,historical background and native language transfer.Above all,the writer will give some suggestions.At the same time,teachers should improve themselves skills,based on helping students to master basic knowledge and correct view to keep knowledge and interest in balance.
