A Survey Study On The Common Errors And The Reasons In Senior High School Students' English Writing

Error is inevitable in writing.It is the deviation from the correct form of the target language.In resent years,more and more researchers have studied errors in English writing,but most of their research subjects are college students rather than senior high school students.The research analyzes the common errors and the reasons in senior high school students' English writing.The research questions are as follows,1.What are the common errors in senior high school students' English writing?2.What are the reasons for the common errors in senior high school students' English writing?This research gives out the writing task to 100 grade two students from two classes in Jinzhou No.1 Senior High School.The writing task is the English composition of 2017 college entrance examination papers(National Volume I).According to James' s(2001)error classification,errors can be divided into substance errors(misspellings and miswriting),text errors(formal errors,semantic errors,morphology errors and syntax errors)and discourse errors(coherence and pragmatic failure).The research explores the reasons for the errors in senior high school students' English writing by a questionnaire survey.The questionnaire has such four dimensions,as interlingual transfer,intralingual transfer,communication strategy and induced factors.The reliability and the validity are good,whose the number values are 0.808 and 0.805 respectively.The research processes and analyzes the data by using Excel and SPSS19.0 software.According to the standard of the common errors put forward by Zhang(2007),the research finds that syntax errors,misspellings and morphology errors are the common errors in senior high school students' English writing.The data in the questionnaire support the conclusion that intralingual transfer and induced factors are the reasons for senior high school students' common errors in English writing.Moreover,this paper puts forward some advice.It is expected that the research can provide some instructive methods.
