Compared with the other language basic skills,writing skills are the most difficult ones to master in English language learning.Many students state that they are afraid of writing in English and are always reluctant to write.Additionally,they lack the awareness of autonomous learning in writing.Fortunately,the above problems can be solved by applying the Length Approach,which is considered as one of the most effective writing teaching methods.This research project aims to explore the effects of the Length Approach on senior high school students' English writing learning and deal with the current writing teaching and learning problems.The following questions are to be addressed in the research:1.Can the Length Approach contribute to reducing students' writing anxiety?2.Can the application of Length Approach promote the students' autonomous learning in writing?3.To what extent does the Length Approach improve students' English writing proficiency?This experimental research was carried out in No.38 Senior High School,Pulandian City,Liaoning Province,lasting 12 weeks from 4th September to 24 th November 2017.The 90 research participants were from two parallel classes of Grade Two.Class Three was designed as the experimental class(EC)while Class Four was set as the control class(CC).During the period of teaching experiment,the CC was still taught by the traditional English writing teaching method while the EC was trained with the Length Approach.Questionnaires,pre-and post-test together with the interview were the research instruments.All the data were analyzed by qualitative and quantitative methods by means of SPSS 19.0.The research findings indicate that the students' writing anxiety has been reduced much by using the Length Approach,which is helpful to advance the level of autonomous learning from low to medium.Additionally,the students' writing proficiency has been greatly improved.As a result,teaching English writing with the Length Approach is very effective.Ultimately,some pedagogical implications and suggestions are stated,which are expected to benefit to students' learning,teachers' teaching as well as the further research.
