| There are four skills in English language skills.They are listening,speaking,reading and writing.Reading and writing skills account for a large proportion in the college entrance examination.However,most students have problems in reading and writing.For reading,students’ reading speed is so slow that they can’t complete a test in the prescribed time.They are unable to guess new words with context when reading.Their vocabulary is poor,which doesn’t have a positive impact on reading comprehension.In their writings,the writer finds that the vocabulary applied by students in compositions is relatively dull and repeated words are used for many times due to the limitation of vocabulary.The expression is always Chinese English and is not accurate enough.Chinese English often appears in their writings.The collocation is random.The structure of the article is not rigorous and it lacks transitional words.Besides,the logic is not clear.Chunks play an important part in improving language skills.They can enhance the fluency and naturalness of language output.Therefore,they provide a new perspective for foreign language teaching.The thesis is based on the theory of chunks,Input Hypothesis and Output Hypothesis in order to solve reading and writing problems.It combines theory with the high school English reading and writing class as well.The research questions are:(1)Is the implementation of high school English reading and writing class based on chunk theory helpful for student’s reading ability ?(2)Is it helpful to improve student’s reading ability ? The researcher chooses two classes including 150 students totally as participants from a high school in order to explore its effect in Ruzhou city,Henan province.It draws conclusions through a questionnaire,a pretest and a posttest of reading and writing scores and an interview.The result is analyzed by SPSS24.0.Through the research,conclusions are:(1)The high school English reading andwriting class based on the theory of chunks can improve students’ reading ability.The reason may be that lexical chunks expand the scope of the student’s visual range and speed up the brain’s ability to handle information.So learners’ reading speed is improved.(2)The high school English reading and writing class based on the theory of chunks can improve learners’ writing ability.Lexical chunks enrich students’ vocabulary,alleviate the problem of poor vocabulary,diversify learners’ expressions and enhance the fluency and authenticity of language output.As a result,they improve students’ writing ability.(3)The result of the interview shows that most students give a positive attitude towards the teaching model.They think that this teaching model improves their reading abilities and it contributes to a better understanding of a text.It enriches the vocabulary and students are no longer afraid of writing.Thus the model improves their writing abilities. |
