This is an English-Chinese translation practice. The source text in this translation report comes from Continuing Professional Development for a Diverse VET Practitioner Workforce, which involves about 17,000 words. It was published in National Center for Vocational Education Research?https://www.ncver.edu.au/?on May,24th,2017.Through a series of studies, the authors of the source text analyze the current situation and motivation of continuing professional development for VET practitioners in Australia, and raise some corresponding questions when summarizing in each part. This translation report reviews and summarizes the whole process of translation, and puts forward the prospects for the future translation practice. This source text is about vocational education and training that is mentioned frequently these days. The authors express the latest developments in the field of continuing professional development and emphasize the professionalization for a practitioner in vocational education and training should be embodied in both teaching and practice. The structure of each part in this source material is quite accordant and unified, meanwhile the authors give some studies and reports from other researches or institutions as powerful and official supporting materials. So,there appear a lot of terms and long sentences in this source text. The text belongs to formal style, therefore the words used in it are precise and accurate, and the structure of sentences is tight and logical. In order to make it easier for readers to receive the source information, and to make the translation more smooth and idiomatic, the translator uses a combination of domestication and foreignization in translation, and chooses domestication as the main translation strategy. The application of domestication makes the translation much concise and clear based on expressing the source information, and this kind of expression is closer to the target readers'comprehension level and expression habit in the target language.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory, the translator uses different methods to translate. When dealing with some typical words and phrases in this source text, including the relevant terms, especially some names of documents or institutions, the translator seeks more accurate translation with the help of parallel texts. Moreover, when translating sentences, the translator analyzes them on syntactic level and translates by linear translation or restructuring sentence orders.Through this kind of analysis on syntactic level, the translator summarizes some gains and experience:when dealing with coordinating structures or the non-restrictive attributive clause, she translates directly by following the original order with the division of sense groups;when dealing with some complex sentences, especially those with adverbial clauses, she adjusts the sentence structures according to the expression habit in Chinese. When dealing with a paragraph,in addition to adjusting the sentence structure when necessary, the translator pays highly attention to the cohesion among sentences according to their context, especially the reference cohesion and logical conjunction,so as to enhance the coherence and readability of the translation.Besides, she puts forward some concrete and feasible suggestions for similar translation programs in the future by her experience and limitations in this progress, which could help the translator deliver better translation.Meanwhile, the translator also hopes that her translation can provide some reference for the same type of texts.
