The Phonological Study Of "Nanbei Fangyin"

Nanbei Fangyin is a rhyming book reflecting the south and north dialects in the late Qing dynasty,which spent Xia Luanxiang's ten years to writing.The book collected 8344 characters.It used the method of attaching south and north dialect words after the homophone group to distinguish the south and north dialects,and attched occasionally some dialects of Qi,Lu,Jin,Chu,Wan,Yue,Min and Guangdong.The north dialect in the book was mainly based on the Shuntian(contemporary Beijing)dialect at that time,and the south dialect was based on Wu dialect and concurrently reflected some elements of southern mandarin.This paper analyzes and compares the initial consonants,vowels,tones and some special phonetic phenomena of south and north dialects,and discusses the phonetic characteristics phonology of south and north dialects in combination with some relevant dialectal materials and some historical records of rhyming books.This article is divided into five chapters:The first chapter is the introduction.It mainly discusses the research status,research significance and research methods and introduces the south and north dialectal related research to enrich the content,and introduces the author's life,the book experience and the related versions of the book Nanbei Fangyin.The second chapter is about the initial consonants.Through analysis and statistics of the first characters in the Fanqie of south and north dialects,we can find out the characteristics of initial consonants in south and north dialects,and the differences in initial consonant system of the south and north dialects can be analyzed and summarized.The third chapter is about the vowels.Due to the special method of Fanqie which the first character influences the medial sound,the analysis of the vowel in the south and north dialects should be paid more attention.By analyzing the conditions of latter characters of Fanqie in south and north dialects,we can obtain the vowel systems of the south and north dialects.The forth chapter is about the comparison.By analyzing the systems of initial consonant and vowels,we can find out the difference of south and north dialects.The fifth chapter is about the tones.The whole book of Nanbei Fanyin is divided into five volumes which include south and north dialects.After the analysis,there are seven tones of Yinping,Yangping,Shangsheng,Yinqu,Yangqu,Yinru,Yangru in south dialect,while the north dialect has four tones,such as Yiping,Yangping,Shangsheng and Qusheng.The sixth chapter is the discussion of the characteristics of the phonology.Through analyzing the characteristics of the initial consonants,vowels and tones of the south and north dialects,and through the analyse of some special phonetic phenomena,we can make a more comprehensive discussion of the phonological properties reflected by Nanbei Fangyin.
