Chi Zijian is one of the most influential writers in modern China and has won many awards such as Lu Xun Literature Award,Bing Xin Prose Award and Mao Dun Literature Award. Her work The Stable in the Foggy Month, which won the first Lu Xun Literature Award,is a short story that shows the writer's intuition and spirituality and transmits her warmth experience with the sufferings of an ordinary native. The thesis selects The Stable in the Foggy Month as the text for English translation. The accuracy of translation is improved from the perspective of Conversational Implicature Theory, which has some references on the similar texts.Conversational Implicature Theory is proposed by the Grice who thinks that all conversations should obey Cooperative Principle for specific goals.Cooperative Principle requires every conversation participant to speak in accordance with the goals or directions of this conversation while the intentional violation of Cooperative Principle will generate implicature.Based on The Stable in the Foggy Month, the translation version is revised by the four maxins of Cooperative Principle.Helpful discussion has been obtained. It can be concluded that it is useful to deal with some difficulties in perspective of Cooperative Principle and provides reference for the translation and introduction of Chi Zijian's novels. The introduction part introduces the research background, the purpose, the significance and the overall structure of the study. The second part summarizes studies of Conversational Implicature Theory,The Stable in the Foggy Month and Chi Zijian's novels as well as the translation strategy. The theoretical framework focuses on the origin and development of Conversational Implicature Theory and the major viewpoints. The fourth part is a case analysis of studying the corresponding translation strategies from the four levels of quantity, quality, relation and manner maxims. The fifth part concludes with a brief summary of the choice of translation strategies under the guidance of the theory, which is in the hope of being beneficial to translation practice in the future. This part also points out the inadequacies of the research and proposes corresponding solutions. In summary, the revise of the translation under the guidance of conversational implicature has the theoretical support.Translators need to adopt strategies in overall consideration based on the recognition and analysis of the implicature and connection with socio-cultural context and the purpose of translation so as to help the readers and the writers build cooperative relations and realize the implicature.
