A Study On The Theme Of Xu Zechen's Novels

Xu Zechen is a famous post-70 writer whose novels are profoundly enlightening.He constructs his literary world from the perspective of calm outsiders,sincere writing ideas and simple and sincere writing attitude.Xu Zechen's novels contain rich themes,and there is an inherent keynote among these themes that echo each other.Therefore,it is of academic significance to study the themes of Xu Zechen's novels as a whole.The novels by Xu Zechen always explore the times,history and the world from individual perspectives,and are always trying to seek a way to solve the spiritual predicament faced by contemporary people.The paper selects six themes in Xu Zechen's novels,i.e.escape,seeking,wandering,loneliness,return and redemption,studies Xu Zechen's novels by means of intensive reading to explore the thought,value and significance Xu Zechen intends to convey to the readers through thematic writing.This paper is divided into three chapters.Chapter One: Escape and seeking.Escape and seeking are the classic themes of Xu Zechen's novels as well as Chinese literature.The paper starts with the causes of escape and seeking to explain the specific forms of escape through intensive reading of texts and text analysis.The characters in his novels are not only escaping in the real world,but their hearts are also on the way to escape.They escape to seek love,future,self-value and faith.The paper demonstrates the purpose and meaning for the characters to escape from the past based on the four things they try to seek.Chapter 2 :Wandering and loneliness.As the important themes of Xu Zecheng's novels,they express his deep concern about contemporary people's spiritual world and living state.Through a detailed analysis of Xu's works,the paper probes into the physical and mental bitterness of people working in cities other than their own hometowns,and explores their spiritual plight where they are drifting from place to place and cannot get what they desire.Chapter three: Return and redemption.The theme of this chapter is the inheritance and development of the last chapter,the paper focuses on how these people working in cities other than their own hometowns break through the spiritual predicament after experiencing the bitterness of wandering and loneliness.Unable to move forward,they can only return to the past to seek the true spiritual redemption and find thesignificance and value of individual life.
