With the reforming of English subject in National Matriculation English Test(NMET),teaching methods have changed fundamentally,especially in reading teaching,for reading is regarded as the most important in all the skills in English learning.Take English test in NMET national volume ? as an example.Reading accounts for the largest proportion,appropriately 33.3%,which suggests that reading proficiency is of great importance in students'English learning in senior high school.Therefore,many school teachers and educators try to use different ways to improve students' reading proficiency in order to prepare them for the NMET English test.Instructed Learning Plan-based English reading teaching model is such a new method applied in teaching by teachers in many schools to improve their students' reading ability.The new teaching model focuses on "students are the subjects of learning and teachers are instructor of learning".It advocates that students should construct knowledge and skills by themselves through autonomous learning and cooperative learning,which caters for the theory of Constructivism and Schema,proving that it is of significance to conduct the research.Facing the situation,the thesis applied Instructed Learning Plan in English reading teaching after studying the related researches on.it,with Piaget and Vygotsky's Constructivism as the theoretical basis of the research.The purpose was to see if the application of Instructed Learning Plan in English reading teaching can improve the students' reading proficiency and arouse their interest in reading.The research chose two classes in No.l Middle School of Gaolan with their average scores in Senior Entrance Exam 110(Class 15,EG)and 112(class 14,CG).In one semester's experiment,the author conducted pre-test and post-test,questionnaire as well as interview to collect data.Then the data was analyzed on SPSS 13.0.By comparing the result of data analysis and interview,conclusion was made that the application of Instructed Learning Plan in English reading in senior high school can improve students' reading ability and arouse their interest in reading.The thesis consists of six chapters.Chapter one introduces the background and significance of the research.Chapter two is an overview of researches on Instructed Learning Plan both at home and abroad.Chpater three shows the theory foundation of the thesis,which is constructivism and Schema theory.Chapter four discusses the research questions,research subjects,research instrument and the procedure of the research.Chapter five is a detailed analysis and discussion of the result of the research.Chapter six present the major findings and limitations of the research and makes some implications as well as gives suggestions to the future researches.
