As one of the most famous writer in the modernist literature of the 20 th century,Franz Kafka's novels not only made great contributions to the development of western literature,but also had a profound influence on Chinese contemporary novelists in the later 20 th century.However Yu Hua is one of the writer who accepts Kafka's influence mostly.His works reveal the inheritance and innovation of Kafka's spirit.The Castle and The Seventh Day are the important works of Kafka and Yu Hua respectively,both of them with a strong era characteristic and reveal the current social situation.The character of these novels are the writing of power,which can reveal the secret operation of power.This thesis will explores the writing of power in the two works firstly.Based on Foucault's power theory,analyzing the power relations and power network from the aspects of sex,power discourse and cultural critique,exploring the connection of power in the western and Chinese novelist.It is not coincidentally that the novels have similar writing style on the writing of power,which have inseparable relationship to the influence of the writer's inner and outer environment.The following is the exploration of the reasons for the writing of power in Kafka's and Yu Hua's novels.One is the writer's emotional experience,which affects their later creation.The other is the influence from the author's external environment,which forms a unique cognitive view of the world.The last is the influence of the well-known people's thoughts.Kafka's acceptance mainly comes from philosophical thought,while Yu Hua's creation is influenced by Kafka,which makes him close to Kafka both on style and theme of the work.Yu hua not only in the process of accepting the influence of Kafka's creation thought,but also constantly explore its own path,and his innovation mainly displays in three aspects: the handling of material,the interpretation of power and the art of narrative.In the end,this thesis will discusses the value and significance of Kafka's and Yu Hua's writing of power from the aspect of the aesthetic.Kafka expresses the philosophical thought that from real life to metaphysics,while Yu Hua choose the way from real life to metaphysics and then back to life.In spite of the different ways of using,the ultimate reality is to show concern for human survival.
