It is of great significance to analyze and interpret the cognition of Chinese characteristics of Abel Rémusat,the "first person" who began to study sinology in the west after the period of missionary sinology.However,at present,the study of Rémusat has just stopped at the summary of its overall cognition of Chinese characteristics and historical value,and there are few specific descriptions of the Chinese cognition of Rémusat.At the same time,the related writings of Rémusat are mostly all in French without published English or Chinese translation,which undoubtedly forms a threshold for research seriously hindering the related research on Abel Rémusat.This thesis aims to present Abel Rémusat' s cognition of Chinese characters,Chinese phonetics and Chinese grammar through translating Abel Rémusat' s representative Chinese grammar book "Eléments de la grammaire chinoise" and other Chinese research writings,and then choose other related scholars from diachronic and synchronic angles to do comparative analysis of Rémusat's cognition,to attempt to make a judgement that there may be some inheritance and development between them,further clearing that Abel Rémusat's Chinese cognitive plays an important role in the whole western sinology and even world sinology.In the end,we can get some useful enlightenment from the Chinese cognitive analysis of Rémusat.The thesis is divided into six chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,elaborating the reasons of the topic and the literature review at home and abroad.Chapter two deals with the lifetime of Rémusat and his contributions to the field of sinology.The third to the fifth chapter is the main part of the paper.It contains detailed description about Abel remusat's cognition of Chinese characters,Chinese phonetics and Chinese grammar.Then firstly we made the comparative analysis from diachronic perspectives with an overview of the ideas of early missionary sinology.The author finds that Rémusat is also bold to put forward his own doubts and new views on the basis of his predecessors' research achievements.Compared with the predecessors,he has been more successful to get rid of the Indo-european grammatical framework when displaying the linguistic features of the Chinese language in terms of concrete cognition and elaboration.The second we choose Humboldt's Chinese cognitive perspectives to analysis remusat's cognition from the synchronic angle.We found that Abel Rémusat,as "Chinese authority" at that time,has made an important influence on Humboldt' s Chinese recognition.Last chapter is about the revelation for the teaching.The author thought that teachers should take the unique parts of Chinese language that Abel Rémusat and many other western scholars focus on as a breakthrough point at the beginning,setting up flexible and varied teaching activities in daily teaching,so that to strengthen students' active awareness of the "uniqueness" of Chinese,which could be helpful to erase their fear from strangeness and maintain their learning enthusiasm.
