Due to the importance of grammar in English learning,as a part of language,students need not only to acquire enough knowledge of grammar,but also to use these knowledge accurately in real language environment.Grammar ability is tested in the National College Entrance Examination.However,grammar is mainly focused on language form.Because most teachers teach grammar in the traditional ways during class time,they feel tired but the effect are bad and the students feel bored when they feel confused about the grammar knowledge.Gradually,students' grammar ability will become worse and worse.In order to solve this problem and cultivate students' English language ability,the author tries to use a new teaching method to teach English grammar in senior high school.This new method dictogloss is a text-based,student-oriented teaching procedure which is carried in groups.Dictogloss can combine the language teaching process with the students' English comprehensive skills such as listening,speaking,reading and writing,enabling students to pay attention to the form and meaning of the language and can cultivate students' language acceptance and output ability.The purpose of the research is to explore the effect of dictogloss on English grammar teaching of the students in senior high school.Therefore,it is the aim to find out whether the application of dictogloss can improve high school students' English grammar achievements and also arouse their interest in learning English grammar.The author carried out an experimental research in two classes from Zhuanglang No.1 Middle School in Pingliang,Gansu Province,which lasted for three months long.There are all together 120 participants whose English grammar levels are similar and they are taught by the same teacher while they are being taught grammar.In the duration of the experiment,the teacher used the traditional teaching method as the method to teach the grammar of the controlled class and used the new teaching method as the method to teach the grammar of the experimental class.With two tests,two questionnaires and an interview as the instruments of the experiment,the data was collected and then analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively.The research results showed that dictogloss can improve senior high school students' grammar achievements,and arouse their interest in learning English grammar.Finally,the major findings are put forward,and the teaching implications for further research and the limitations of this research are explained respectively.
