The Effect Of Cognitive Flexibility On College Students' Social Adaptation:The Mediating Effect Of The Use Frequency Of Emotion Regulation Strategies

Social maladjustment will not only cause trouble of college students' study life and interpersonal communication,but also influence college students' mental health level and future career developmen.Recently,many studies have investigated that the cognitive flexibility could influence individual's social adjustment.However,at present,there are rare studies referred to effect mechanism of cognitive flexibility on individual's social adjustment.The present study chose college students as subjects,planed from the emotion regulation view to explore the effect of cognitive flexibility on college students' social adjustment.The study one chose college students(N=536)as subjects,used the Cognitive Flexibility Scale,Social Adjustment Diagnostic Scale,explored the relationship of college students' s cognitive flexibility and social adjustment.The result found that there was a significant positive correlation between cognitive flexibility and social adjustment in college students.After controlling the demographic variables about college students,college students' cognitive flexibility had predictive effect social adjustment.The study two also chose college students(N=526)as subjects,adopted the Cognitive Flexibility Scale,Social Adjustment Diagnostic Scale and Emotion Regulation Questionnaire explored the relation of college students' cognitive flexibility,social adjustment and emotional adjustment strategy.The result showed that there was a significantly positive correlation between cognitive flexibility and cognitive reappraisal strategy using frequency;a significantly negative correlation between cognitive flexibility and expressive suppression strategy using frequency;a significantly positive correlation between cognitive reappraisal strategy using frequency and social adjustment;a significantly negative correlation between expressive suppression strategy using frequency and social adjustment.In addition,the cognitive reappraisal strategy partly played a mediation role in college students' cognitive flexibility and social adjustment.The results investigated that college students' cognitive flexibility had significantly predictive effect on social adjustment,cognitive reappraisal strategy partly played a mediation role between cognitive flexibility and social adjustment.
