The new curriculum requires teachers to pay attention to students' personalized and diversified learning and development needs.Perceptual learning style is an important factor affecting individual learning behaviors. Therefore, teachers need to pay attention to what kinds of perceptual learning styles students tend to use in their teaching process.Writing,as a key expressive skill, plays an important role in English writing,so it is necessary to explore the influence of perceptual learning style on students' English composition scores. This paper, based on Reid's perceptual learning style theory, took 124 students in grade-one of Huangpi No.3 Senior High School as subjects. The following questions were discussed: 1)What is the overall characteristics of grade-one students' perceptual learning style? 2)What is the impact of grade-one students' perceptual learning style on their English writing scores? The participants' learning style questionnaires, scores of argumentation and practical writing were collected, and the collected data were statistically analyzed by using SPSS19.0 statistical software. The result shows that: 1)The general characteristics of high school students' perceptual learning styles are: kinesthetic is the most commonly used one, followed by tactile, auditory, visual, independent and group perceptual learning styles;2)Among six types of perceptual learning style, only kinesthetic and tactile learning styles have influence on English argumentation--significant difference is found in students' argumentation writing scores between major kinesthetic perceptual learning style and minor kinesthetic perceptual learning style(P = 0.027 < 0.05).Significant difference is also found in students' argumentation writing scores between major tactile perceptual learning style and minor tactile perceptual learning style(P = 0.001< 0.05).3)Among six types of perceptual learning style, only kinesthetic and tactile learning styles have influence on English practical composition--significant difference is found in students' practical writing scores between major kinesthetic perceptual learning style and minor kinesthetic perceptual learning style(P = 0.015 < 0.05).Significant difference is also found in students' practical writing scores between major tactile perceptual learning style and minor tactile perceptual learning style(P = 0.000 < 0.05).On the basis of the above findings, the overall characteristics of high school students' perceptual learning styles and the causes for the impact of high school students' perceptual learning styles on different genres of English writing achievement were analyzed. The study is conducive to exploring the influence of perceptual learning style on grade-one students' English composition scores of senior high school. The author put forward some constructive suggestions for the teaching of English writing.
