Analysis On Liu Xiaodong's Realistic Paintings

Realism is a creation method.On one hand it follows the principle of reflecting real life and arouses people's feedback for beauty and mental enjoyment by direct and vivid figures.On the other hand,it advocates that art comes from life and goes beyond life,with artists' understanding and critics for life inside.The attitude artists hold for reality and public during creation is the foundation of realistic art creation.Mr Liu Xiaodong,as one of the best realism painters in contemporary China,always draws materials from reality to genuinely express his inside feelings.He has been loyal to reality and himself,and persists to picture what closely related individuals and social life.He tried to use creation to influence reality and hopes to bring more attention and understanding to realism.This paper analysed the realism features shown in Mr Liu's paintings and discussed it in the following aspects,i.e.representation of typical figure in typical environment,detailed depiction,dramatics and humanist.Mr Liu's artworks from different periods,together with his creation background and style,were selected to discuss the features of realism in the paintings of contemporary China.This discussion aims to display the outstanding attractions,revealing the significance of realism for contemporary Chinese art.
