A Preliminary Analysis Of Black Glaze Porcelain Unearthed At The Ruins Of Wangjing Gate City Wall In Mingzhou

Wangjingmen Outer City Wall was first built in the late Tang Dynasty,after times of collapse and rebuilding,it has remained numerous porcelain with different colors of glazes,including green,bluish white,black,sauce,white,yellow and transmutation glazes,among which most of the black glaze porcelain were mainly produced by kilns in Fujian and Jiangxi province.This paper collects all of the black glaze porcelain excavated here and takes a statistical analysis with the method of typology based on each kiln,then summarizes the general characteristics of their black glaze products,and tries to make a preliminary analysis on the reasons that why there are so many black glaze porcelain unearthed here.This paper contains following four chapters:The first chapter is the presentation of the stratigraphic accumulations at the ruins from where the black glaze porcelain were unearthed;The second chapter is to analyze the characteristics of the black glaze porcelain with the method of typology based on their kilns,namely Dongzhang kiln,Chayang kiln,Jizhou kiln,Jian kiln and a unknown kiln.The general characteristic of each kiln will be summarized in this chapter;The third chapter is to make a preliminary analysis on the reasons that why there are so many black glaze porcelain unearthed here from following four points:1.the way of tea-drinking changed;2.Rising of the products of Jian kiln and other kilns that manufactured similar products;3.The prosperity of Dongzhang kiln as a kiln that mainly manufacture black galze porcelain;4.Mingzhou port served as a transfer station in the porcelain trade during the Song and Yuan Dynasty.Conclusion.A summary of the whole article,then point out the problems and limitations.
