Directional verbs are specific and widely used in modern Chinese. The directional verb is often used as a part of“verb+directional verb”.There is a certain conjunction between this feature and the view of monism in pattern grammar.Pattern grammar takes precedence over methods and data, and is a language research method closely related to corpus driven. It focuses on the type of words, and the starting point and end point are words. This research is based on the theory of pattern grammar, starting from the high frequency directional verb in modern Chinese and useing a tagged corpus?National Language Committee's Modern Chinese General Corpus-An Annotated Corpus?as an investigation sample, exploring the main patterns and their secondary patterns of high-frequency directional verbs, namely,“lai???,qu???,chu???,qi???,shang???,qilai????,chulai????”.The main patterns of“lai”include“v+vmonosyllabic directional verbs+n+lai”“pdepend/vuse+np+lai+v”“dao/cong+nplocation+lai”“?np?+v+er+lai”;The main patterns of“qu”include“p/v+np+?zhong/li?+qu+?v?”“vmainly monosyllabic directional+lai+vmainly monosyllabic directional+qu”“(npperson)+qu+vact”;The main patterns of“chu”include“?np?+vp+chu+np”“chu+?le?+?shenme?+nnon-active”;The main patterns of“qi”include“?cong/zi?+nptime+qi”“?np?+vp+qi+np”“?zai+np+zhong?+qi+?le/zhe?+?a/mq?+zuoyong”;The main patterns of“shang”include“?np?+v+shang+np”“?np?+shang+n”;The main patterns of“qilai”include“ba/shi/jiang+npabstract+c+npabstract+vjoint+qilai”“?np?+vp+qilai”;The main patterns of“chulai”include“vp+chulai”“cong+nplocation+chulai”.A detailed description and analysis of the patterns of the seven high frequency directional verbs from the internal and external perspectives of the pattern reveals that the internal components of the same pattern are semantically common, and there are sometimes certain collocations between constituent elements. In the external language environment, most of the seven types of high-frequency directional verbs do not have obvious semantic colors, but they have certain characteristics in relation to the types of sentence mood, sentence structure, and contextual components. The use of pattern grammar to analyze high-frequency directional verbs in modern Chinese, starting from large-scale real corpus, using the quantitative typicality and the overall meaning as the criterion, excavating the pattern of high-frequency directional verbs, and describing the patterns in detail inside and out.To some extent,It has enriched the research results of Chinese pattern system, and provided another perspective for understanding Chinese directional verbs. It has certain application value in the teaching of directional verbs.
