Nowadays the cultural communications between China and other countries have become more frequent than ever.A variety of excellent foreign literatures have been introduced to China with the help of the translation.As an important part of literature,mystery fiction has been attracting more and more people's attention.This kind of fiction is full of suspenseful elements which can hook the readers meanwhile keep them in suspense and detection during the process of reading.Someone to Save You is a typical suspenseful mystery fiction written by the English novelist Paul Pilkington.The author is highly skilled in creating the fiction of this kind and the readers can deeply feel his personal writing style in his works.This book is full of suspenseful elements,which seems even a little thrilling in some chapters.The plot of the whole fiction is pretty gripping and the author delicately uses many vivid expressions to describe the personalities of the characters.In light of those features of this fiction,the translator believes that “how to keep in line with the style of the original style meanwhile make the translation acceptable for Chinese readers” should be the key point of the research problem.The translation of this fiction has its own practical significance: it can not only meet Chinese readers' demands but also provide valuable reference for Chinese authors to create excellent fictions of this kind.At the same time,it also offers the translator a precious opportunity to combine translation theory with practice.The translator selects the first three chapters as the translation text and applies Skopos Theory in the translation.This theory puts a particular emphasis on the importance of translation purpose and requires the translator to choose different translation strategies according to the different purposes.Under the guidance of its three rules,the translator endeavors to make his work readable for Chinese readers meanwhile keep its style consistent with the original text to the utmost extent.During the process of the translation,the translator finds that the reference function of Skopos Theory is very helpful in the translation of suspenseful fiction and its three rules can provide many practical strategies to deal with those difficulties.The detailed application of this theory is as follows: first,some vivid expressions of the original text are difficult to transform into Chinese.To translate such expressions in a suitable way,the translator makes appropriate adaptations according to the purpose of the translation.Second,some problems caused by cultural differences are unavoidable which may bring some challenges to the translator.When meeting such problems,he endeavors to guarantee the coherence of the translation and make it clearly understood by his target readers.Third,some words containing the author's implications in the original text are a little equivocal.At this point the translator should be faithful to the original text and he can add some details in the translation to explain author's implications if necessary.Owing to the limited ability,the translator still has some puzzles about the translation of suspenseful translation.In the future,the translator will make great efforts on this area and try to translate this kind of fiction in a more suitable way.
