This study discusses E-C translation of Tech news from the perspective of Skopos theory. The application of Skopos theory to E-C translation of Tech new has been stressed. Features and purposes have been summarized. Addressees of target text have been listed. Significant elements, based on Skopos theory, which influence the realization of translation purpose have been summarized. And then, strategies and methods, based on the selected theory, have been summarized for reference. Discussions above are expected to give hints for the process of translating, helping to obtain translated version of high quality and good readability and low homogeneity. Case analyses have been selected from Huanqiu.com, a website subordinated to Global Times, to elaborate application of Skopos theory to E-C translation of Tech news. In particular, general procedures have been summed up for unskillful translators, who are either MTI candidate or MA candidate, majoring in English Language and Literature. They have basic knowledge about translation theories, strategies and methods. Having good commands of organic combination of theoretical instructions and translation practice, however, has remained as a question to be discussed. Through this study, the most distinct finding is following below:E-C translation of Tech news, from the perspective of Skopos theory, pays closely attention to translation purpose and addressee’ expectations. To some extent, it optimizes the degree of realizing communicative purpose of translation. Translation purpose, which is influenced by addressees, helps translators to select proper strategies and methods. Free translation or literal translation should be selected flexibly by translators when it is firmly believed to be the right one. Methods, such as amplification, omission, division have been used on proper occasions. Generally, there is always a combination of several strategies as well as methods in one process of translation, according to Skopos theory. On the basis of holding respect towards source text and making sure correctness of information, translators can work in a consciously initiative way. This contributes to:on one hand, the whole process of translation objectively balances relations among requirements for obtaining good translation. These requirements are: science and technology in terms of contents, journalism in terms of style, communicability and informedness in terms of purpose and readability for addressees. On the other hand, Skopos theory allows omission or amplification of information when needed, In this way, the reference version can be much more acceptable for addressees. Reading interest can be stimulated to some extent. As a matter of fact, abundant achievements have been obtained on subject in this thesis, including studies on translation theory, translation strategies and methods as well as analyses on a certain object. However, applying them to the process of translation is the one that should be paid much attention to since it is a must to realize the final goal of E-C translation of Tech news which is to disseminating information and meet needs of addressees. That’s the main concern in this thesis, through which hints of integrating theory with practice are expected to be pointed out.
