The cult film is derived from the "midnight field" in the United States and which is the Chinese translation of the word "Cult Film".This kind of special movie category,which was born in the cultural context of the western certain niche fans and relied on the late dissemination effect.Although it is unable to meet the influence brought by the mainstream commercial movie to the cultural market,it has its own unique development space and survival way.In recent years,with the expanding of information exchange channels,the concept of cult film has entered into China with the “spirit of western learning”.On account of the impact of cultural institutions and other factors,the Hong Kong area took the lead in absorbing the creative ideas of cult film.Since the 1970 s,a series of controversial but unique cult films have been created and have acquired their own living space in the market at home and abroad.This paper selects Hong Kong cult films from the 1970 s as the research subject.Firstly,the content of the cult films could be studied by a microscopic cross-context way,their unique aesthetic forms and artistic characteristics could be explored,and the effective models could be provided for follow-up researchers,which could enable more audiences to understand and accept this kind of unique cultural phenomenon and create favorable opportunities for the development of marginal film culture.Secondly,it could try to stimulate the cultural innovation vitality of China's film market through the further dissemination of the concept of cult movies,propose rational ideas for the survival and development of the mainland independent film market which stood in the position of cultural diversification.This article focuses on the study of cult films in Hong Kong since the 1970 s through the following aspects:First of all,the development of the cult films in the Hong Kong region has been analyzed through the analysis of the overall development history of the cult films,and the analysis of Hong Kong's unique social and cultural background has laid the foundation for the follow-up research ideas.Secondly,the art forms and aesthetic features of Hong Kong cult films since the 1970 s has been explored from the perspective of noumenon,and the representative works have been selected for text analysis which is in order to deepen the understanding of their connotations and correct the misunderstanding of public about the cult movies.Third,the special market effects of cult films have been focused,and it has been analyzed from the perspective of movie fans and their survival outside the mainstream market.At the same time,the rationalization of the development andpopularization of private cinemas and art institutes in China is proposed.
