The present dissertation, resorting to the "effect approach" in comparative literature, describes and studies the two factors that influence the shaping and growth of films in Hong Kong, and comes to the conclusion that the resources of China, Hong Kong District and Taiwan Province should be made full use of to produce the "Chinese Brand of Films".Hong Kong films have notable characteristic features with both Chinese and international hues. In the cultural domain of South China, Hong Kong films are under the influence of Chinese traditional culture, especially the culture of Ming and Qing Dynasty, for example, the didactic principle, the theory of refinement and crudeness, the theory of being witty and interesting, as well as the traditional religion culture, swordsman culture and popular culture. Likewise, the cinematic culture of Shanghai afforded its all-round, direct and sustained influence to Hong Kong films. In return, Hong Kong films influenced films in Chinese continent and Taiwan Province.Meanwhile, Hong Kong films received belatedly and discriminately influences from Western films. Hollywood commercialized films, the European films of art, Japanese films, especially the production system of Hollywood, the French cinematic conception of "new waves", the technique of Japanese swords films, and sex emancipation, post-modernism, recreationism and commercialism have had in varying degrees impact on Hong Kong films, building up their own style which welds Chinese culture and international cinematic culture. At the same time, Hong Kong films also contribute to the international films.Today, with the rise of China and the policy of constructing a harmonious society, it is the right time for the film makers to employ all the resources in China, Hong Kong District and Taiwan Province and create a genuine Chinese brand of films. It is our strong belief that all the film makers will live up to the expectations of our times and work hard for an even brighter future in film industry.
