Study On The Border People Between Liao And Song Dynasty

In the Liao Dynasty,Five Dynasties and Song Dynasty's confrontation period,Sixteen Prefectures of Yanyun,people in north of Hebei and Hedong were affected by war and alternation of regime.Those affected the production and life of the border people,so that their loyalty to Central Plains Dynasties was gradually weak and they crossed the border sometimes.After the Liao Dynasty and Song Dynasty concluded the Treaty of Chanyuan,they went into nearly a hundred years of peaceful confrontation.The border people of Liao and Song got more stable living environment,their economic and cultural life had border characteristics.In the confrontation period between the Liao and Song Dynasty,the border policy of regime influenced their economic activities greatly.Firstly,the Liao Dynasty put emphasis on the development of Nanjing Circuit 's agriculture.The border people sometimes could enjoy tax,benefits of agricultural production policy.The Song Dynasty used lakes to defend enemies and planted elms and willows to stable boundary.Those measures did damage to agricultural production of border people.The Song Dynasty banned people from river fishing,stealing of willows.The border people of Song Dynasty complied with the government's ban,but it was frequent for the border people of Liao Dynasty fishing in the boundary river and stealing trees.Secondly,there are people crossing the border because of different taxes and corvee in military buffer zone.Thirdly,border people did cross-border economic activities.They did legal trade hosted by the government and did books,salt,horses smuggling activities by the border position.Fourthly,the consumption of border people had the border characteristics.To meet their needs for survival,border people exchanged food,salt and other necessities of life to each other.In the confrontation period between the Liao and Song Dynasty,border people had the strong fusion in their cultural life.The Han people in border areas of Nanjing and Xijing Circuit had shaved hair and left lapel.Cremation gradually developed in Hebei and Hedong area because of Khitan's admiration.The "steal day" with northern ethnic characteristics had gradually become the custom in Yanyun region.In addition,both in daily and written words,the Chinese character showed its powerful infectivity in the territory of Liao.By Khitan's attachment to martial arts,the Han people in Yanyun region strengthened their martial spirit.Synthesizing many aspects of integrated border cultural life,we can explore the national exchanges in border region.What characteristics of political,economic,cultural,ethnic and other aspects of psychological did the border people of Liao and Song Dynasty have in the long period of national exchanges? It is worth further exploring the role of national integration and development.Based on the combination of traditional historical and local chronicles,the stone inscriptions of Liao Song and Jin Dynasty,the archaeological murals of Liao Dynasty,we can draw a conclusion by using of historical analysis and comparative analysis.The border people of Liao and Song formed stronger political identity of alien regime in long-term relationships.They established economic relations that broke administrative order in close economic exchanges.Cultural identity existing in the Liao and Song Dynasty continued to develop in the Song and Jin Dynasty and promoted the formation of national consciousness.The developing regional identity of border people is an important cause for the development of national unity consciousness,which also is an important aspect of national integration.
