Research On Cutter Verbs In Modern Chinese

The research of verbs has gradually been brought to the attention of the linguists.It also involves some verbs of cutters,but the research is scattered,mainly focused on the study of verbs of cutters having the higher individual usage rate.There are no special books or literature about verbs of cutters.Based on the research results of predecessors,this article aims to comb and investigate the "cutter" verbs"qie,ge,xiao,gua,ti,kan,pi" meticulously and thoroughly from the aspects of semantics,grammar and pragmatics.The full text consists of five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction part,mainly elaborating the research object and content,confirming the research purpose and meaning,illustrating the current research status in the field of linguistics,and making clear about the research methods and the sources of corpus.The second chapter,based on the previous studies,looks up the relevant dictionaries,defines the scope of the verbs of cutters and points out the scope of the research in this paper.At the same time,it analyzes the meaning of "qie,ge,xiao,gua,ti,kan,pi",makes classification according to the types of cutters and gives investigation about the usage rate of the 13 verbs of cutters which have occurred in?modern Chinese frequency dictionary?in CCL corpus and online corpus.The third chapter especially focuses on combing the meanings of the verbs of cutters "qie,ge,xiao,gua,ti,kan,pi" and the definition of each verb in the dictionary according to the review and explanation of the meanings of the seven verbs of cutters.The "qie,ge,xiao,gua,ti,kan,pi"is used by pair comparison method in sequence.It investigates the most significant difference between the two verbs and which verbs of cutters are difficult to distinguish from each other and analyses the reasons behind the results.The fourth chapter makes a description about the types of image schema,extended meaning,metonymy and metaphor in the verbs of cutters"qie,ge,xiao,gua,ti,kan,pi".The fifth chapter analyzes the net position and the net quality of the verbs of cutters.The net position is an investigation of the semantic features and semantic selection of the application,the object,the tool and the location which have been involved with the verbs of cutters.The net quality is an investigation of the syntactic patterns of the verbs of cutters.The conclusion summarizes the main contents and shortcomings of this thesis.
