Ye Zhaoyan,From the early 1980 s to the present,Ye Zhaoyan has gone through a his entire novel creation course for over thirty years.Moreover,his publication is a total of more than five million words.Throughout Ye's novel creation,it is not hard to find that he is a innovative writer with a constant pursuit of self-breakthrough.As you can see,his works,which illustrate the richness and diversity in the aspect of themes and narrative style respectively,are mainly involved with historical themes and realistic themes,and able to flexibly switch back and forth.It is also easy to recognize that much ink is spilled in the the stories of the ordinary citizens from the writer's pen through his novel creation course.From the depiction of the citizens' stories over the the change of society,it is vividly reflected that the writer has his special concern and responsibility towards citizens.My thesis frames it in terms of the depiction over citizens,setting about to do some concrete research and analysis on Ye's novel from three parts.In the first chapter,the thesis presents a generalization of the citizens' living conditions.More specifically,in the first section of the first chapter,we portray the citizens' stories with the time change,in the writer's pen,which aims to show the the difference of citizens ' living conditions between the Republican era and contemporary era.The depiction of this section mainly captures the typical characteristics of these two epochs.The Republic of China is an age with the great collision between Chinese culture and western culture,that is to say,the citizens in this age is in an embarrassing cultural state.Comparatively,in the contemporary era,in this present society,many citizens have been enslaved by material objects and even do the wicked things against reason and nature at all costs for the greedy pursuit of material abundance.In this period,people's appetite swelled sharply and quickly,however,people ' s morality is falling in a state of desert.Through the Ye ' s description of citizen's living conditions in the different eras,he strives to ponder the change of the traditional culture and places his cultural affection.The second chapter analyzes the female images created by Ye Zhaoyan,a masterhand in depicting females,who is even being famous for its description of female images in the literary world.In this chapter,the images of female citizens are divided into three types,namely the vixenish type,the noble type and the crazy-for-love type.Although these female citizens have different characters,most of them are lack of self-awareness.They succumb to patriarchy,and even defend for it.In Ye's novel,men become the symbol of a culture.He attempts to save the increasingly dispirited culture through depicting females' great and selfless love for males.The third chapter discusses the value and significance of Ye ' s writing of citizens.First of all,from civilian perspectives,Ye attempts to seek and reveal the development trends of the whole society through the construction of more realistic historical mirror images by depicting the life of ordinary citizens,Secondly,the exploration of human nature by Ye also reaches a certain depth.On one hand,he portrays the universality and convergence of human nature,such as irrationality.On the other hand,he depicts the national character of the Chinese people through questioning Chinese problems.Last but not least,as a responsible novelist,Ye pursues the meaning of human lives.The fourth chapter analyzes and discusses the narrative strategies and linguistic style of Ye's novels,the creation of which not only inherit the tradition of classical novels,but also combine narrative techniques used in modern novels.The languages in his novels are simple,elegant and plain.While inheriting the narrative principles of classical novels,he also employs skills such as meta-narration and anti-climax in his narration.Through the combination of Chinese and western styles and continuous innovation,he has made his own contribution to the exploration of the languages and forms of Chinese novels.
