Being an important part of literature, children's literature plays an important role in the formation of children's values. In recent years, with the development of global multi-polarization,economic globalization and cultural diversity, more and more people begin to pay attention to children's literature. However, traditional research on translation of children's literature has long been marginalized at home and abroad. The theory and practice of children's literature translation has not been able to achieve substantial development and breakthroughs.Due to cultural and linguistic differences between the source language and the target language,it is hard for translators to express the exact connotation of the source language accurately and vividly. Therefore, using Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory, this thesis takes the Chinese-English translation of Chapter Two of Genniao as an example to probe into children's literature translation from the following three aspects: lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence and rhetorical equivalence. It shows the applicability of functional equivalence theory to children's literature translation. The author argues that translators can break the shackles of traditional translation theories by using functional equivalence theory, which is not only faithful to the source text but also loyal to the realization of the target text's function and purpose. This study is of both theoretical and practical significance. From a theoretical point of view,Functional Equivalence Theory could be combined with children's literature translation, which breaks the situation of the unidirectional translation standards in traditional Chinese translation and enriches the principle of open-ended dynamic translation. From a practical point of view, through an analysis of the linguistic features and translation practice of Chapter Two of Genniao, this thesis provides some strategies on how to achieve functional equivalence in children's literature translation, aiming to translate more literary works for children.
