A Report On The E-C Translation Of "Foreign Capital And Economic Growth Of China And Emerging Asian Economics (Excerpt)"

This is a report of English-Chinese translation practice.According to the requirements of the entrusting party,the translator needs to translate chapter 5 and chapter 8 of an economics dissertation entitled “Foreign Capital and Economic Growth of China and Emerging Asian Economies”.On the basis of the full understanding of the language and text features of the economics text,the translator selects specific translation methods and skills to solve some problems in the process of the translation.Under the guidance of John Cunnison Catford's translation shift theory,the translator controls the quality of the translation and makes efforts to meet the demands of the entrusting party.This report is made up of five chapters.The first chapter gives a brief introduction to the translation task.The second chapter aims to illustrate the nature of the source text and the requirements of the entrusting party.The third chapter introduces the translation process,including before translation,while translation and after translation.The fourth chapter focuses on analyzing some typical problems from the lexical,syntactic and textual level and elaborating how to solve them respectively.The conclusion is drawn in the fifth chapter,summarizing the translator's experience and gains in the translation process.In the process of translating terms,passive voice sentences and complicated and long sentences,the translator comes across a lot of problems and solves them by adopting intra-system shifts,structure shifts and other shift skills of translation shift theory.The form of the source text is shaken off under the guidance of the theory in order to deliver the meaning accurately.The translation practice is a rewarding experience for the translator because she not only improves her ability to translate materials,but also acquires abundant knowledge on both social and natural sciences.
