Researching on the orchestral work Mandala Symphony(1960)by Japanese cocomposer Toshiro Mayuzumi(1929-2-20--1997-4-10),my research interpreted the characteristics of the religious music work and the unique style of Mayuzumi.Mandala Symphony suggests the perspective of compound composition in the ear of diversity through its composition technology,for instance,pitch organization,tone color,orchestration and structural arrangement.Mandala Symphony is another Buddhist orchestra work composed by Mayuzumi after Nirvana Symphony.This work have two parts,named "Vajra dh?tu mandala" and "Ghrbha dh?tu mandala",with lots of Japanese traditional musical elements and Buddhist musical elements.This paper consists of three parts:The first part is introducing the biograph of Mayuzumi and reviewed the literature on his work.The second part includes three chapters that the creation background,composing skills of “Mandala”(including pitch,tone color,orchestration and structure)and revealed the cultural significance in the similar theme work of Mayuzumi.The third part is summarizing the composition technology and style of Mayuzumi's work,try to found the influence of Japanese traditional culture,especially Buddhist culture on the composition thinking of Mayuzumi's work.
