The thesis begins with the introduction of the Greek myth of Narcissus whose behavior signifies infatuation with one' s self,uses the metaphor of "water infatuation"to interpret artist Hockney's same-sex infatuation,and analyzes the intertwined relationship between "water infatuation"and his artistic creation.The first chapter of the thesis describes Hockney's depictions of water and their artistic techniques in an objective manner in order to reveal the significance behind these art works.The second chapter of the thesis analyzes Hockney,s fascination with male images and depictions of them in different forms of arts.The third chapter of the thesis analyzes Hockney,s exploration of his own identity in his anti-traditional works.The fourth chapter of the thesis is to find the gender characteristics in Hockney's typical colors that contains his emotion and passion.The fifth chapter of the thesis summarizes Hockney's attitude towards same-sex infatuation in light of the development of same-sex infatuation related arts in history and how he,being a participant and strong proponent in the post-modern cultural movement,revealing an artistic philosophy that comes from and returns to life.
