| The side-trimming painting is the significant form of pattern decoration,it has been widely used in clothing,ceramics,painting and paper cutting for many years.During the development of export porcelain’s pattern decoration,rich and varied edge patterns have also become a major feature of porcelain decoration.From 16th Century to 18th Century,it is in the late Ming Dynasty to the early Qing Dynasty,this stage is also the active period of Sino foreign trade and the export of porcelain,there were many typical and famous export porcelain varieties,such as Kraak porcelain、Armorial porcelain and Guang color,the artistic style of porcelain decoration had evolved and developed continually.According to the research of export porcelain edging,on the one hand,it can provide the basis for judging the age of Armorial porcelain and other export porcelains,on the other hand,we can also analyze the specific situation of porcelain trade and economic and cultural exchange between China and foreign countries,as well as examine the influence of Chinese and foreign economic and cultural factors on the porcelain’s production and manufacture from the changing process of the edgings.However,because a large amount of materials is currently scattered abroad,and the related research results are mainly from the western scholars,so there are some differences in the research angle,cultural background and language.Besides,there is also a lack of specialized study of export porcelain edgings in China.Therefore,this article mainly analyzes the classification of export porcelain edging patterns from 16th Century to 18th Century,which is based on the characteristics of the times、composition and the theme patterns,and judging the age and staging of all kinds of edging patterns with the standard porcelain,as well as analyzing the international trade and cultural communication mode behind the development of the style of edging decoration.This article mainly selects the edge decoration patterns of the export porcelain dishes from 16th Century to 18th Century as the research object.Firstly,through consulting the relevant collections,the museum antique catalog,books,and papers,we have mastered relevant information of export porcelain edgings preliminarily.In addition,I have visited some major museums,such as Rijksmuseum,National Museum of China and Shanghai Museum,to observe and collect materials on the spot,and I also want to classify the export porcelain edgings by archeological methods and observe the change trend according to the time sequence.Through the study,we can know that there are four kinds of artistic styles in the export porcelain edging from 16th Century to 18th Century,including Chinese traditional style,Western style,Japanese style and compound pattern(the combination of Chinese and Western),and have undergone two obvious changes from the late Ming Dynasty to the early Qing Dynasty.The change and development of the edging are affected by many factors between China and foreign countries.The comprehensive factors include the development of Jingdezhen porcelain industry,the order method of foreign businessmen,and the influence of popular culture in the porcelain market.The economic and cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries which behind the development of edgings artistic style are continuing,and the influence of this kind of communication is two-way. |
