Research On Suzhou Art Academy(1922-1952)

Suzhou Academy of Fine Arts was formerly known as the Suzhou summer art school,which was founded by Yan Wenliang,Hu Cuizhong and Zhu Shijie et al.After the joint efforts of teachers and students such as Yan Wenliang,until 1937,before the outbreak of the war of resistance against Japan,Suzhou Academy of Fine Arts became the most beautiful one with complete facilities.In the course of more than 30 years of schooling,Suzhou Academy of Fine Arts has raised the banner of patriotism and focused on students' moral education.The school takes "benevolence,forbearance and sincerity",established by Yan Wenliang,as the school motto to guide the behavior of teachers and students in the school.The motto runs through all aspects of campus culture and guides students to pursue the noble realm of "truth,kindness and beauty".The eight-year relocation of suzhou art school to Shanghai is the vivid embodiment of the spirit of its teachers and students under Yan Wenliang's leadership,who adhere to the national integrity,and maintain the lifeblood of education for the nation.It is also a typical example of Suzhou Academy of Fine Arts to practice its school motto,which reflects the valuable patriotic feelings of that generation of intellectuals.While paying attention to the cultivation of students' comprehensive quality,Suzhou Academy of Fine Arts also set up practical art department in 1932 based on the concept of art serving the society.And it initiated practical art in the national art colleges.After the founding of the People's Republic of China,it also initiated the animation major in the country,trained practical art talents for serving the society,and opened up a new field of art education.In addition,Suzhou art school was also actively oriented to the community.From 1919 when Yan Wenliang and others first held art and painting competitions(the first national art exhibition)to 1947,Suzhou Academy of Fine Arts ' art exhibition lasting for decades(except eight years of anti-Japanese war)attracted a large number of domestic and foreign artists and a large number of audiences.The national first local art museum run by the school also provided a place for art lovers and the general public to observe famous works of art.School teachers and students founded or participated in more than 20 associations and distinctive school magazine " art waves",which not only played an important role in school education,but also promoted the public art education.In the past 30 years' schooling,Suzhou Academy of Fine Arts has trained a large number of talents for Chinese modern art with its rigorous academic style and high standard of education mode.Especially teachers of technique theory course in the national art colleges and universities and talents in animation and other practical art are mostly from Suzhou Academy of Fine Arts.It has made outstanding contributions to the development of Chinese modern art,and has written a thick wipe heavy color in the history of Chinese modern art education.
