This is a translation project report based on Chapter Two and Chapter Three of When Computers Can Think: The Artificial Intelligence Singularity,written by Dr.Anthony Berglas.The selected chapters aim to introduce the concept of technical singularity,as well as to analysis and predict the development of artificial intelligence based on the theory of natural selection.With artificial intelligence gaining increasing attention in recent years,the impact this technology in the future will become one of the major topics in so many countries.In light of that,this translation project intends to provide a variety of reference information of the technology,as well as to help Chinese readers to view AI development through a brand new angle.This report includes five chapters.Chapter One is the introduction of the translation project including its background,significance and structure.Chapter Two gives a detailed analysis to the source text,including its publishing facts,main content and linguistic feature.Chapter Three introduces the theoretical guidance of the report and its application.Peter Newmark’s text-type analysis and his semantic and communicative translation will be employed to analysis the text.Chapter Four is about difficulties in the translation and their solutions.Several translation techniques such as amplification,conversion and division will be mentioned to help deal with the difficulties in it.Chapter Five is the conclusion of the report,containing lessons learned from this translation practice and problems to be solved in the future study.
