A Report On The Translation Of The AI Advantage:How To Put The Artificial Intelligence Revolution To Work(Chapter 1)

In this translation practice,the present author has chosen the first chapter of The AI Advantage: How to Put the Artificial Intelligence Revolution to Work as the source text,which is involved in several cutting-edge AI technologies and their applications in large enterprises.The translation aims to present new ideas and practices of this field for IT firms in China to make wise choices of development strategies and technological options.The original text is typical of informative text and serves to deliver information.The present author makes a strategy of combining literal translation with free translation and follows the principle of the priority of literal translation,in order to keep faithfulness and information accuracy without damaging the readability of the target language.In case analysis,the present author first explicates several methods used in lexical translation,such as transliteration,free translation,additional translation and the way of parts of speech transformation,to address problems concerning polysemy,flexible uses of parts of speech and so on from the perspective of the typical translation of nouns,verbs and adjectives.After that,the present author combines syntactic features of such texts and analyzes translation approaches and methods applied in passive sentences,nominal clauses,attributive clauses and long sentences with difficulties.Finally,the present author proposes methods for dealing with pronouns and making clear logical relations according to cohesion and coherence in discourse translation.Throughout this translation practice,the present author has consolidated the theoretical knowledge of translation,improved the practical translation ability and gained deeper insights into translation processes as well as the qualifications that translators should have.
