| With the rapid development of AI all over the world,AI has begun to integrate with all sectors. The application of AI in companies can bring more efficient work, and it will serve as a great force to promote the development of modern companies. In order to enable readers to understand the combination of AI and industries much better, the translator selected two chapters of Ulrika Jagare’s book Artificial Intelligence Operation: Bridging the Gap between Technology and Business for English-Chinese translation practice. The selected chapters are mainly about machine learning and big data that bring challenges and opportunities for companies.Since it is an informative text, the translator writes a translation practice report based on Peter Newmark’s communicative translation. The translator analyzes the key difficulties of translating technical texts at the lexical, syntactic and textual levels. For instance,at the lexical level, the translator mainly analyzes the translation of abbreviations and tries to use annotation. At the syntactic level, division and amplification methods are mainly adopted for the linguistic differences between Chinese and English. At the textual level, the translator mainly focuses on references and conjunctions and uses explicitation and implicitation strategies to make the target text more coherent and logical.During this translation practice, the translator believes that the translation should take the background of the discourse and the target readers into consideration to ensure fluency and accuracy in terms of linguistic, cultural and pragmatic aspects of the target text. This translation practice cultivates the translator’s ability to translate technical texts, and helps her have a deeper understanding of translation strategies and methods in the translation of technical texts. And it also lays a solid foundation for her translation of such texts in the future. It is hoped that this task will provide some reference for the translation of technical texts. |
