Since World War ?,Economic Planning is an important policy of the Government of UK's state intervention. After the idea of economic planning got through the embryonic stage, trend of thought in economic planning grew up in 1930s' UK.Though various ideas of economic planning hadn't been put into practice,UK's economy moved into wartime track.During the war,the coalition government's state intervention was successful, and the experience of state intervention boosts the confidence of Attlee governments in economic planning. In the immediate post-war years, because of the severe economic reality,Attlee governments attempted economic planning;because of the demand management in dealing with long term economic growth in 1960 s,Macmillan governments and Harold Wilson governments once again carried out economic planning.Attlee governments' economic planning was the first attempt of this economic policy. In the immediate post-war years,in order to carry out economic planning,Attlee governments preserved the machinery during the war. After the fuel crisis of 1947,Attlee governments reformed the machinery of carrying out economic planning.Dominated by the various considerations, economic planning which was not satisfied, was replaced by Keynesian demand management. When Conservative took office in 1951,it carried out stop-go policy. But,it was difficult to achieve rapid economic growth of the UK.Meanwhile,UK is in the relative decline among the developed countries. In order to achieve rapid economic growth,Macmillan governments founded National Economic Development Council, which was responsible for economic planning and published Growth of the United Kingdom Economy to 1966.However,Conservative collapsed in general election of 1964 before this plan was putting into practice. In October 1964,Labour Party which was led by Harold Wilson won the general election by characteristic slogan of economic planning, and the second attempt of Labour's economic planning commenced. In September 1965,Wilson governments published The National Plan, which became the guide of economic growth of UK.However, after the sterling crisis in July 1967,Wilson's deflation measures and the abandonment of devalue for sterling actually murdered The National Plan.Between 1966 and 1970,the key economic policy of Wilson governments was still the demand management focusing the short-term problems. After the collapse of Wilson governments in 1970,national economic plan has never published by the Government of UK.So far,Britain's economic planning since World War ? was completely failed. In general, economic planning is not the solution of UK to achieve economic growth and get rid of relative decline. After 1970,economic planning disappeared in the UK.
