"Yijian" first came from The Book of Changes. It was one of the important principles of the The Book of Changes illustrated by Confucius and his disciples.Developed from Pre-Qin to Wei-Jin period, the concept of “Yijian” changed a lot.It changed from methodology to theory and aimed at “complexity”.The paper managed to take Wang Bi as the entry point and use his annotations to analyze “Yijian” from all perspectives, then further to understand the definition, function and significance of“Yijian” in Wang Bi's theory. The author first researches on the cultural origin of “Yijian” by analyzing the origin and the part of speech of “Yijian”,then traces the development and change of“Yijian” from Pre-Qin period to Han Dynasty and further find out the transmission of“Yijian” from normal principles to concept and theory, providing a basis for the following analysis of Wang Bi's thoughts of “Yijian”.The paper also refers to texts from Wang Bi's works in order to specifically analyze different meanings of “Yijian” in Wang Bi's different works.Through the analysis of the texts, the author obtains the function of Wang Bi's “Yijian”,which is the unity of the three dimensions:natural dimension, conscious(cognitive)dimension and and behavioral dimension respectively. Moreover, the paper illustrates the various manifestations of “Yijian” in Wang Bi's theory according to his main ideas and propositions. The last section summarizes and elevates the historical significance of Wang Bi's“Yijian”.The author cites Wang Guowei's theory to explain the level of “Yijian”,combines “with objects” and “without objects” and reaches “Greatness in simplicity”,which may inspire future studies. The author also evaluates and concludes Wang Bi's“Yijian” as well as extends the positive impact of Wang Bi “Yijian” on culture and its historical limitations.
