Surabaya is the second largest city of Indonesia.In recent years,the Chinese language education in Surabaya developed rapidly,and made some noteworthy achievement.At the same time however,there also exists some problems of the teaching.This paper mainly study three most typical universities in Surabaya which have Chinese department as an object,through the study on teachers situation,teaching skills,students situation,teaching materials and university environment,analysis the characteristics and problems of the Chinese language teaching education.The findings would also provide useful insights and guidelines for enhancing the quality of Chinese language education in Surabaya area,even the whole Indonesia.This paper mainly divided into four parts:The first part is introduction,mainly introduce the reason and value of selected topic,brief the Indonesian history and current situation of Chinese language education.It also includes the information of research object and the specific research methods.The second part is the result of survey.This is the core content of this paper.we adopt quantitative analysis to study the teachers situation,teaching skills,students situation,teaching materials and university environment of the three universities.Further analyze the similarity and individuality.In teachers situation,teachers in all of these three universities can speak standard Chinese as teaching language,and prepare sufficient before the class.However,exist problems,such as using single teaching method,teaching language affect,lacking of adjust teaching content depend on students'cognitive and learning situation.In students situation,because of the influences from society and family and the factor of student themselves,make the student has lower motivation to study Chinese,and eventually influence the study performance.In teaching material,the institution using different series textbooks in different grades,and there is no connection between them.The textbooks are lack of systematic.In school environment,all three universities attach great importance to the Chinese language teaching,it is a good news for students,but they didn't want to combine the Chinese language teaching and culture teaching,and didn't take activities of Chinese seriously.The third part is advice and solution.According to the second part,we put forward some advice to the institutions.The institution leaders should protect the Chinese teachers' rights,especially for the teachers come from China,assisting them to handle the visa issue.At the same time,institution should enforce further training and increase the local Chinese teachers' salary to attract more local people to join in Chinese education industry.For Chinese teacher,they should keep improving their teaching skills.And according to the situation and acknowledge of students,choose the appropriate textbook,set correct learning target and assist students get more improvement.Because the student live in non-target language countries,there are less environmental practice,so the student should set positive learning attitude,strengthen the comprehensive ability of their listening,speaking,reading and writing,and take all chance to practice their Chinese.The fourth part is the epilogue.It concludes the whole paper,and points out the limitation and improvement in this paper.
