This is an English-Chinese translation report.Its source text is an excerpt from the first two chapters of Financial Education in U.S.State Colleges and Universities: Establishing and Building Programs.This book takes a case study approach in an attempt to illustrate four organizational models of financial education delivery mechanism in U.S.State Colleges and Universities.Chapter 1 demonstrates the financial literacy imperative of college students in America and gives an overview of financial education programs in U.S.State Colleges and Universities.And Chapter 2 explicates a four-fold typology of financial education programs and further discusses the delivery methods and contents of them.The source text intends to introduce the way state colleges and universities build financial education programs to readers,therefore,the source text belongs to informative text.In this light,the author employed Peter Newmark's Text Typology to guide the translation.In view of the formal words and professional expressions of the source text,semantic translation method was employed with the intended purpose of conveying the meaning of source text exactly.In addition,considering the long and complex sentences of source text and the difference between the English and Chinese,communicative translation method was adopted.Under the guidance of these two translation methods,the author gave examples to explicate the application of them from word level,sentence level and paragraph level.Through this translation practice,the translator has got the further understanding of the original text and knew the delivery methods of financial education in U.S.colleges and universities,and improved the translation ability.Most importantly,the translator has known more about the differences between the semantic translation and communicative translation and improved the ability to apply the translation theory into practice.
