A Narrative Study Of Abe Kobo's Novels

Abe Kobo(1924-1993)was an outstanding representative of Japanese Post-war Literature.Unlike the original Japanese literature's features of delicate writing or realistic writing style,Abe's works were full of profound,original and challenging insights.His observation of the human survival condition which he experienced by himself during wartime and postwar period made up the sources of inspiration for his creativity.He explored the ideas by using both Japanese thinking model and western literary thoughts.His works drew out the absurdity of human's existence in capitalist society crunch.For the aspect of creation,he obeyed the rules of avant-garde literature,and he owned his unique style in the novels narration.This paper focuses on his novels narration methods and narration features by using series of narrative theories,and his narrative methods brought a significant breakthrough to traditional Japanese literature.This paper divided into five parts.Part1 is a brief introduction on mainly researches on Abe's works nowadays.Part2 analyses the space-time construction model of Abe's novels.The narrative time of his work is special.This chapter mainly narrates the inverse timing and non-time.The narrative space is divided into physical space which contains region,place,goods etc.and text space which shows up total overall layout.Part3 discusses Abe's novels narrative situation.Narrative ways,narrative person and narrative focalization are three important parts of narrative situation.Abe always intervene to express his own thoughts into his novels by respectively elaborating the transgression and the transformation of the narrative perspective under the dual narration.Part4 is about narrative features.First of all,intervention is the very typical feature of Abe's novels.He pays close attention to the condition of human existence,so he showed his minds by writing great works and let the public notice.Secondly he used cognitive metaphor.Let us regard literature as a complete system,so we research from macro to micro perspectives of metaphor,and make out an analysis of the relationship between the spatial metaphor and the existence of metaphor in the novels.Finally,Abe's novels follow with interests of absurdity.Even the usual way of human life,we also feel the sense of alienation.This section is intensify the connotations.Part5 is tracing back on Abe's narrative style.He inspired from both traditional Japanese Literature style and western literary thoughts that makes his novels' narrative framework is so unique.His works are extremely valuable not only in Japanese literature but also the world literature.
