There are abundant tourism resources in China including both the natural tourism resources and the cultural tourism resources with Chinese characteristics.With the improvement of China's international status,the connection between China and other countries has become closer and closer.Thus,more and more foreign tourists start to tour to China to appreciate the beautiful landscapes,which makes C-E tourism translation more prominent.However,the current situation of C-E tourism translation is not optimistic.Although the quality of C-E tourism translation has improved in recent years,there are still many translation errors in the tourist attractions and some of these errors will make foreign tourists misunderstand the tourism resources,dislike Chinese social culture,and even cause adverse impacts to the international image of China.Based on this circumstance,this paper tries to make a study on C-E tourism translation from the perspective of Relevance-Adjustability Theoretic Approach.First of all,this thesis makes a literature review on tourism translation as well as Relevance-Adaptation Theory and translation abroad and at home.Secondly,the paper makes a brief introduction on Sperber and Wilson's Relevance Theory,Verschueren's Adaptation Theory and Li Zhanxi's Relevance-Adjustability Theoretic Approach(RATA).In RATA,Li Zhanxi replaces"Adaptaton" with "Adjustability",better embodying the "visibility" and "subjectivity" of the translator semantically and pragmatically in the process of translation,which requires the translator,in order to achieve relevance,adjustability and cognitive consonance in C-E tourism translation,to tell the stories of China well and spread the voice of China to the world,contributing to the realization of the "Chinese Dream".Therefore,RATA is chosen as the firm theoretical foundation of this study.Thirdly,this thesis makes an analysis on C-E tourism translation process from the view of RATA.According to Li Zhanxi's RATA,this paper puts forward the opinion that C-E tourism translation is not only a process of ostensive inference,but also a process of dynamic adjustment.In the process of ostensive inference,the original author makes ostensive stimulus based on the target reader's cognitive environment and cognitive ability.The translator,as one of his target readers,makes contextual assumptions according to the original author's ostensive action.The translator tries his best to seek for the optimal relevance to the material and finally infers the author's intentions.While in the process of dynamic adjustment,the translator needs to adjust to the foreign tourists' cognitive environments in order to help them have a better understanding of the tourism resources.This process mainly consists of linguistic adjustments and contextual adjustments.Next,C-E tourism translation errors are listed and analyzed according to RATA.They are divided into the errors caused by translator's improper inference and the improper adjustments.Finally,according to Li Zhanxi's RATA,approaches to improving C-E tourism translation are put forward.The research shows that translators can give full play to their subjectivity,and render the tourism material well by means of strengthening their cognitive inferential capability,and reinforcing their cognitive adjusting capability through maintaining,abandoning and manipulating the author's informative intention,so as to improve the quality of C-E tourism translation and the relative pragmatic effects,promoting China's tourism translation to "go global" and achieve the ultimate goal of publicizing Chinese culture to the world.On the basis of pragmatic translation,this thesis provides a new angle for C-E tourism translation with the guidance of Relevance-Adjustability Theoretic Approach.What's more,the paper has a certain guiding significance for the practice of C-E tourism translation,and provides a reference for translators to translate the tourism materials.
