A Report On Chinese-English Interpretation Of Business Meetings

As a report on Chinese-English consecutive interpreting on business meetings,the writing is based on the author's internship experience at Schenck Process,a multinational corporation.It was a Board Meeting task involving commerce,finance,R&D and operation business.To highlight the key points,this report takes the Chinese-English consecutive interpreting as the object of study.The report expounds main interpreting problems and solutions during the task.For instance,when confronted with a speech conflict between the speakers,the author took the strategy of transferring the message only related to the business and deleting the part of heated and harsh speech;when unable to catch up the speed of the speakers and having missed some content,the interpreter made up by such methods as amplification,contextual speculation,summarization,etc.After the meeting,the interpreter made a further study of Gile's Effort Model for Interpreting to reflect upon and summarize the job having been done.After the task,the author gains some experiential summarization of how the author gets meeting document as much as possible by communicating or searching on the internet,how the author simplifies number interpretation by setting rules at the scene,and how the author remedies if there is any mistranslation.In addition,the author can think about how to assign concentration based on Effort Model.Through the task description and case analysis,it is found that meticulous preparation is of great help in interpreting.What's more,to save time,an interpreter should convey the right meaning in concise words.Besides,the interpreter ought to make a rule with the speakers,in order to avoid interpreting mistakes caused by a long time speech,which leads to difficulty in note-taking.
