Numbers are a stumbling block for many real time interpreters.Errors in interpreting important figures will cause significant obstacles to the audience’s understanding and affect the effective transmission of information. Therefore, interpreters should not only think highly of the problems of figure interpretation but also explore the causes behind the mistranslation of it,solve these problems accordingly and clear up the obstacles of figure interpretation.Guided by Gile’s Effort Model, this report takes two C-E consecutive interpreting ssegments of the "Seminar on Development and Management of Service Outsourcing for Developing Countries" that the author attended in 2022 as analytical texts, and discusses the causes and coping strategies of the mistranslation of figure interpretation from the perspective of interpreters’ cognition. The report includes task description, literature review, case analysis on the causes of mistranslation in figure interpreting, coping strategies and conclusion. In the report, the author summarized the causes of mistranslation in figure interpreting:insufficient analytical listening of figure information, unreasonable note-taking of figure elements, and effort imbalance between listening, memory and note-taking in the comprehension phase, and inaccurate recalling of figure elements, lack of number conversion ability and effort imbalance between information recalling and linguistic transfer in the speech production phase.According to different stages and causes, the author proposed coping strategies and flexible production methods for the mistranslation of figure interpreting. Finally, the author summarized the research value of the report, explained its shortcomings and limitations, and put forward suggestions for further research.
