Report On Consecutive Interpreting Under The Guidance Of Gile’s Effort Model

From 29th to 31st December 2019,the author interned as an interpreter for the 2019 annual conference organized by Shengya Company,focusing on the consecutive interpreting at the opening and closing ceremonies as well as liaison interpreting at the welcome banquet.Based on the author’s personal experience,this report explores the guiding function and practicability of Gile’s Effort Model for consecutive interpreting activities including business annual conferences.Gile’s Effort Model defines that interpreters need to distribute their total effort properly to seven aspects including Listening and Analysis,Note-taking,Short-term memory,Remembering,Note-reading,Production,and Coordination based on their capacity of addressing information so as to meet specific processing capacity requirements and deliver good performance.By analyzing the author’s performance at the business conference with the combination of this Model,this report recognizes the positive impact of Gile’s Effort Model for consecutive interpreting in helping interpreters locate problems,spot weaknesses,and come up with coping strategies.Through the above analysis,this report also puts forward suggestions for future interpreters to enhance their interpreting quality and achieve better performance in consecutive interpreting including business annual conferences.
