Interpreting 2017 China(Xi'an)-Greece Investment Financing Trade Forum-A Practice Report Of Problems And Strategies

Under the guidance of Gile's Effort Model,the author tried to analyze his interpreting performance at the 2017 China(Xi'an)-Greece Investment Financing Trade Forum so as to explore the reasons behind his problems and offer solutions.The author firstly transcribed the meeting recording and then identified three types of interpreting problems,which are information loss,repetitive interpreting,and misinterpreting.The author found the reasons behind those problems were high speech density,short-term memory overload,and noise distraction,which results in imbalance in effort distribution.Therefore,the author chose Gile's Effort Model as the guiding theory of this report and used retrospection and case analysis as the methodologies to analyze the above three problems and their respective reasons.Then,the author proposed three coping tactics,which are compression,omission,and paraphrasing.Later,they were used in his second interpreting task and proved to be effective in effort coordination.The author hopes that this report can shed some light on the use of strategies to deal with effort coordination in future business consecutive interpreting activities.
