A Report On Translation Of Landscape And Urban Design For Health And Well-being(Excerpts)

The report is an E-C translation practice report on architectural texts.The original text is excerpted from the eleventh chapter of Landscape and Urban Design for Human Health and Well-being by the famous British Landscape architect Galen Sutter-Brown.And this capture is about 10500 words.This chapter mainly involves salutogenic design principles,essential ingredients of healing gardens,forms and functions of healing gardens and natural playground,which brought new ideas to Chinese urban construction.Nowadays,architectural models,landscape construction and overall architectural design of cities in China have been developed rapidly.But it also leads to a series of environmental problems which affect urban environment and human settlements.Therefore,the translation of Landscape and Urban Design for Human Health and Well-being celebrates the introduction and publicity of new landscape design concepts in China,and helps Chinese readers to learn more about healing gardens.On some degree,it pushes the promotion of salutogenic approaches in China,and accelerates the ecological transformation.Moreover,the Chinese translation of the chapter will give useful references for architectural translation.The report is divided into four parts.The first part is the description of the translation task,which mainly introduces research background and significance of the translation project,original text analysis.The second part is the description of translation process,including preparatory process,translation process and correction process.The third part is case analysis.It mainly analyzes semi-professional vocabularies,compound sentences and discourse coherence.Under the guidance of Communicative Translation theory and the principles of"professional,loyalty and readability",the thesis discusses translation skills and text strategies from vocabulary,sentence and discourse respectively,with applying liberal translation,syntactic linearity,reverse translation,points translation and so on.In the fourth part,the author summarized translating feelings and experience in the translation practice,some problems to be solved and shortcomings.Based on the translation process and the case analysis in the translation practice,the author summarized some translation strategies and methods for the translation of architectural texts.But the analysis of words in this translation report should study deeply on architectural vocabulary characteristics,which would give more translatiion detailed in the report.
