| Globalization has witnessed a number of good foreign audiovisual products coming into China.They can enrich people's cultural life.In order to eliminate the language barrier to cultural exchange,translating the subtitles of these foreign audiovisual products for their Chinese audience has gained increasing attention in recent years.High-quality subtitle translation can help the audience acquire a better understanding of foreign audiovisual works.In the age of information,fan-subtitle(fan-sub for short)groups have emerged and soon become the prime force of subtitle translation.However,due to the lack of systematical translation theories and professional translators,the quality of subtitle translation is far from being satisfactory.In order to gain first-hand knowledge of the current situation of subtitle translation,the author joined a fan-sub group in 2016 and participated in the translating of American TV series The Good Fight from February to April,2017.During that time,the author found the major issues and difficulties are the translation of legal terms,long sentences and the issue of "translationese".Based on this practice,the author analyzes in this report the causes for the above-mentioned problems under the guidance of Skopos theory and work out corresponding translation strategies according to her experience in and reflection on subtitle translation.Solutions including term list and free translation method can be used to improve the translation quality.By analyzing examples cited from the project text,this report aims at providing a reference for subtitle translators and improving the quality of subtitle translation. |
