In recent years, under the guide of China's strategic policy "the Belt and Road",Chinese agriculture has had a close connection with world agriculture.Nowadays,as agriculture cooperation is becoming more and more urgent, there is a great need for the English translations about Chinese agriculture. The source text of the translation report is taken from A Reading of Chinese Agriculture(Chapter 5)written by Zhang Yunhua. This book enjoys professional and forward-looking content, which helps readers to systematically understand the Chinese agriculture. In 2015,it is recommended as "A Good Chinese Book".Today,as great progress has been made in agriculture, the translation of the book can not only provide a platform for the foreigners to understand Chinese agriculture, but also help the going-out of it.In this report, the author firstly introduces the translation task and the background of the translation project in a brief way,and then gives a detailed description on the translation process. Before translating, the translator has searched and read the relevant parallel texts in order to lay a solid foundation for the translation activity. The differences between Chinese and English languages result in some translation difficulties, including "difficulties in lexicon" and "difficulties in syntax".Finally,in terms of typical cases, the author illustrates how to use proper translation methods and translation techniques like addition, omission, conversion, and so on,to deal with the difficulties and provide more readable English versions. To conclude, the report systematically summarizes the characteristics of English for agriculture.Based on the full consideration of the differences between Chinese and English languages, the author attempts to look for feasible translation methods to ensure the accuracy of vocabulary, the faithfulness and smoothness of sentences.
