The thesis is a project report on an English-Chinese translation.The extracted texts come from a newly-published book---Fat for Fuel which is written by Dr.Mercola,a well-known nutritionist and doctor in America,who proves that cancer is not a kind of genetic disease but the obstacle in metabolism.In order to prevent cancer and other diseases while keeping fit in life,it would be better to enjoy high quality fats so as to provide the energetic support for metabolic system in human body.After a brief introduction of the source text of this translation practice the translator has a full understanding of the whole text and analyzes the features or problems came across in the process of translation under the guidance of Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory.Then,the problems in translation will be explored,for example,typical medical terms,vocative titles in guidebooks,and different thinking modes between China and western countries in medical domain.In order to solve these problems,the translator applied some translation techniques to solving each problem.Finally,the translator draws a conclusion,which includes gains and lessons in the process of translation and suggestions for science and technology translation. |
