The French writer Albert Camus,who was the representative of existential philosophy and literature,gained the Nobel Prize of literature in 1957.The language style of Camus' works was simple but concise,and they expressed the attention on those important philosophy themes,such as humanity,dignity,and value that concerned with death,existence and revolt.Combined with his own special experiences,Camus drew nourishment from Greek tragedies and existential philosophy,and integrated the tragedy spirit of the time into his creation,so that he could fully demonstrate his sense of responsibility of the revival of Modern Tragedy as a humanist.The modern tragedy spirit in his works was displayed by the spirit of sustained resistance and self-sacrifice when facing with the ridiculous reality.As a writer of era conscience and keeping the balance between thoughts and action,Camus followed after freedom and humanity,fought against violence and death penalty,and called for awakening and resistance.He had a positive effect on people living in reality.This dissertation which starts with the reflection of the research on Camus by close reading,aims to sort out and refine the modern tragedy spirit in Camus' works,and then gives the proper evaluation for it.The introduction reviews some of the research on Camus at home and abroad,and the modern spirit.Based on the themes of philosophy and revolt,these works and dissertations interpret of Camus and his works are from different aspects.Furthermore,the writer presents the development of western tragedy spirit.In addition to the introduction,there are three chapters in the text.Chapter One aims to discuss the source of the modern tragedy spirit in those works,and it discuss from the aspects of theoretical origin and realistic origin.In the theoretical part,it centers on Greek tragedies and existential tragedy philosophy.Chapter Two analyzes the connotation of the tragedy spirit in the text,and Camus'personal philosophy and creation theory are the theoretical support.This chapter contains five sections:the absurd living condition,the recognition of religion's nothingness,the value and meaning of individual existence,the intrepidity of dying towards living and the revolt of facing reality.Chapter Three discuss the value and meaning of Camus' modern tragedy spirit,and shows the great contribution to the society in western country and the history of literature.In the end,the dissertation gives a brief summary of Camus' whole life from the angle of humanism,and views his works as a recognition on literature and social history.
